Dance with Sounds
Feras uses movement to creatively demonstrate and illustrate the use of the harakat in creating short and long sounds in the Arabic language. Set in an Iraqi bakery in South Western Sydney, Feras aims to capture the music of language in his movement, and the shapes of sounds, letters, and words in his form. His joy in the language overflows in his work, making this a delightful celebration that brings language off the page and into our bodies.
Lesson topics include:
Pronunciation, mouth shapes, and the Arabic vowel sounds (harakat)
Vocabulary related to food
Descriptions of the local bakery and other familiar places
Transforming words into shapes with the body
