In 2021-2023, Forked Tongues Multilingual Regional Arts Outreach Program will deliver multilingual creative and language arts programming to regional settlement locations in NSW.
Using our purpose-built multi-arts caravan, “The Universe of Possibilities", LOST IN BOOKS will connect with regional artists; community workers and educators; and community members to continue our creative work with newly-arrived communities.
This project is an expression of Think+DO Tank Foundation’s work as a creative force for social cohesion and belonging; a champion of multilingual creative production and self-expression; an accelerator of creative talent; an investigator of complex social needs; and an agile, experimental, collaborative force, with community members and service partners, in shaping fairer systems through the arts.

OUTREACH CAPACITY
“The Universe of Possibilities” is a multi-arts outreach caravan, designed to spread joy, create optimism and empower regional and rural communities through multilingual creativity, creative programming and community engagement.
The Universe of Possibilities is designed to deliver the full benefits of our program on the road. It was commissioned to deliver high quality creative programming to resettlement hubs throughout South Eastern Australia. We propose that it begins its work in Newcastle and Coffs Harbour. It is capable of delivering outdoor events and workshops, a preferable modality in this new COVID era. Further, it is capable of delivering programming regionally, even if our core team in Sydney is locked down.
The Universe of Possibilities can operate as a pop up shop; a workshop space; an events space; an outdoor cinema; or as a venue. It carries a solar array and battery; water tanks; storage; awnings; a sound system; and a large flat screen that rises from within a wall for screenings. It draws a crowd wherever it goes!
ASPIRATION
We are experienced in hiring culturally and linguistically diverse employees who speak languages other than English in our work. Over the course of our operations, we have hired 45 paid staff; at least 24 of whom identify as being from a refugee or migrant background. We are always looking to improve the way we induct, train and develop our staff, and to attend to the particular needs of team members who have a refugee experience. We have learned about the impacts of trauma on work performance, and how to adapt the design of work to bring out the best in each of our team members.
In addition to direct employment, we run a Volunteering Program, led by a Volunteer Coordinator, that supports 247 registered volunteers to:
become active volunteers
acquire English on the job
contribute their skills to the community
become work ready
gain Australian work experience/ translate for community audiences
access peer support
gain new skills
share their talents
make connections
do meaningful work.
Think+DO Tank Foundation acknowledges that we meet and work on the traditional lands of the Cabrogal clan of the Darug nation and pay our respect to Elders both past and present.
